Alex dominate Westering clash

ALEXANDER Road ran in five tries to two to beat Westering 39-10 in their schools' rugby match in Newton Park on Saturday. Alex were dominant in the forward exchanges from the outset and this allowed them to dictate play for the majority of the game.

The combination of No8 Seth Frieslaar, scrumhalf Jessie Dillon-Johnson and flyhalf Dillon Walters also proved the difference, with the dynamic trio superb throughout.

Westering had their chances and scored tries through centre Lyle Draghoender and Sitsaba Sonkosi but numerous handling errors cost them dearly.

Alex got the scoreboard rolling as early as the opening minute when a superb training ground move saw Dillon-Johnson snipe through for the opening try.

Another try from left wing Siseko Maninjwa and two penalties and two conversions from Walters saw the home side leading 20-5 at the break.

Dillon-Johnson snapped up a second try after the break as did Maninjwa, while Frieslaar also dotted down on full time. Walters added two second half conversions to complete a solid win.

Newton v Humansdorp

A TRY after the hooter saw Humansdorp Secondary break the hearts of the Newton Tech faithful as the visitors snatched a 12-11 win on Saturday.

The match-winning try was scored by right wing Darren Lottering, but it was the skilful play of flyhalf Rodney Damons that set it up.

Their other try came from centre Maurice Alexander after a great side-stepping dart from 15 metres. Scrumhalf Charles Goeda added the conversion.

Alexander and Cheswin Uithaler had good games for Humansdorp.

Newton Tech's only try was scored by fullback Armand Visser just before half time.

The home side used the strong wind to good effect in the second half and they camped in Humansdorp's half for much of the period. This gave centre Kurt Lindoor an opportunity to land two penalties for an 11-7 lead.

However, Humansdorp broke out against the run of play for Lottering's match-winning try.
