Touch-and-go as Alex just beat VP

ALEXANDER Road enjoyed a thrilling victory over arch-rivals Victoria Park in their schools cricket fixture at the weekend.

Batting first, VP posted a good total of 245 runs after their 50 overs thanks to a fine 89 by Joshua Assam and some poor fielding by Alex.

However, Alex showed tremendous character and application to reach the 245 with one ball to spare and one wicket remaining.

Matthew Smith made 57 on his first team debut, while the Alex middle-order all chipped in.

Athinkosi Booi made a quick 33 to help their cause.
