Callies well set at top of league log

CALLIES opened up a commanding five-point lead at the top of the Safa-NMB SAB soccer league with maximum points from their double-header over the weekend.

On Saturday they battled to a hard-earned 1-0 win over Showvillage United at the Zwide Stadium.

Diego Burgins latched on to a cross to the far post by Damien Hufkie midway through the first half to score the only goal of the match.

On Sunday the log-leaders thrashed Sunrise Development 7-2 in a catch-up fixture. Callies led 3-1 at the break with goals by Sheniel Benn (2) and debutante Gregory Damons.

In the second half they went on a goal-scoring spree as Benn completed his hat-trick and Damons added his second. A brace by Orenthal Jordaan made the score 7-1 before an own goal reduced the deficit. – Mogan Segadavan
