King boys new u-15 regional title holders

WALMER High were beaten 2-1 by King William's Town's Charles Morgan in the Eastern Cape Copa Coca Cola under-15 final held in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

Charles Morgan, from the Amathole region, will represent the province at the national championship in Cape Town next month.

The Copa tournament was hosted by Walmer High, who are the Nelson Mandela Bay regional champions. Seven teams from the Eastern Cape regions participated in the event to determine the provincial champions.

For their efforts, Charles Morgan received a floating trophy and medals. The Walmer High players also received medals.

South African School Football Association (Sasfa) NMB regional secretary Dumza Thys said the tournament had been a success.

"We had a great day at Walmer High School and the young players behaved very well on and off the field," Thys said.

"The teams arrived on time and the tournament went according to our plans."

Thys said the supporters were entertained by music and there had been plenty of prizes to give away to the fans.

Tournament sponsors Coca Cola recently renewed their association with the event.

Introduced seven years ago, the Copa Coca Cola Cup is a development tournament which caters for about 3500 schools and about 30000 boys nationwide.

Some of its graduates include Andile Jali (Orlando Pirates), Mandla Masango (Kaizer Chiefs) and Ronwen Williams (Supersport United).
