Looking for South End legends

THE only vestige of homes in the Old South End opposite the museum, seem destined to be demolished. The derelict buildings belonging to Portnet surely are of historic value. Curators of the South End Museum are to be commended for preserving the memory of the bygone era. As sentinels of this heritage, they should make every effort to acquire the property. Rumour has it that the tract of land east of the museum is to be sold by Portnet. As a "citizen" of the former suburb that fell victim to forced removals, I am finalising my research for my book, The Legends of South End and would be delighted to include heroes of every hue in the story line. I appeal to ex-South Enders to submit a photograph of their legend with a maximum of 120 words. Send the information to my e-mail brucew@stmarks.org.za. Bruce Woolard
