Two suspects arrested for possession of firearms



Two suspects were arrested for the illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Sunday morning.
In the first incident, police heard gun shots being fired while patrolling Msinka Street, in New Brighton at about 00:50.
Police spokesperson Andre Beetge said police spotted a 31-year-old male suspect running, they stopped and searched him.
"A 9mm pistol with nine rounds of ammunition was found in his possession. The serial number of the firearm was removed." Beetge said.
In the second incident the police were following up information in Jambasi Street, Ikamvelihle at about 02:50.
"After a shack was searched, a 9mm pistol with three rounds ammunition was found between the bed and wall," he said.
A 26-year-old male suspect was arrested.
"The serial number of this fire arm was also removed."
Both suspects were arrested for the illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and will be appearing in the Motherwell and New Brighton Magistrates Courts respectively on Monday.
