Elderly woman robbed while sleeping

An elderly woman was robbed while she slept in the early hours of Saturday.

Police spokeswoman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the 72-year-old woman, of Overbaakens, went to sleep at about midnight after taking sleeping tablets.

“She woke up at 6.10am in the passage of her home with a deep wound to the forehead, painful ribs and marks on her wrists as if she were pinned down and her underwear had been removed,” Janse van Rensburg said.

“She pressed the panic buttong to activate NSA Security. A plasma TV and a cellphone was stolen. The suspect/s gained access by throwing stones through the bedroom window.

Janse van Rensburg said the woman, who was home alone at the time of the incident, had not been raped.

A case of house robbery is being investigated.
