Zuma’s application to interdict Public Protector to be heard on November 1

The application by President Jacob Zuma to interdict the Public Protector from releasing a report on state capture will be heard on November 1‚ together with the application by Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Des van Rooyen.

Thuli Madonsela had prepared to release the report‚ into complaints of improper conduct by the president and officials of state organs due to their alleged inappropriate relationship with the members of the Gupta family‚ on her last day in office last Friday.

However‚ Zuma and Van Rooyen launched separate court applications which prevented her from releasing the report

Van Rooyen’s application was heard on Friday but the matter was postponed until November 1 to be heard with the application by Zuma.

The matter was postponed because a number of political parties sought to intervene in Van Rooyen’s application.

In an agreement made an order of the court‚ the parties said pending the determination of the application‚ the public protector’s report will not be released to the public and will be preserved.
