Body of fisherman swept off rocks recovered

Sea Rescuers have recovered the body of a fisherman believed to have been swept off rocks by a wave at Morgan Bay near East London on the Eastern Cape Coast on Saturday. The National Sea Rescue Institute‚ police and emergency services‚ including a helicopter‚ responded on Saturday afternoon after receiving a report that a fisherman’s gear and personal effects had been found along the shoreline and that the fisherman was suspected to be missing. Crew aboard a fixed wing aircraft‚ flying in the area at the time that joined in the search‚ located a body off-shore of Morgan Bay. “An NSRI rescue swimmer (who is also an EMS rescue paramedic) was deployed into the surf from the EMS helicopter and the body of a 30 year old East London man was recovered to the beach by the rescue swimmer and confirmed to be deceased‚” said Geoff McGregor‚ NSRI station commander at East London. Police have opened an inquest docket and the body of the man has been handed into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services‚ he added.
