Fake sick note doctor's leave to appeal conviction dismissed

A doctor’s application for leave to appeal his fraud conviction was dismissed in the Port Elizabeth Regional Court on Friday (09/09/16). Dr  Bongani Nqini, who runs his surgery from Njoli Square in Zwide, was arrested in 2010 for issuing a backdated sick note without examining the patient. On Friday, Magistrate Johan Herselman said he had carefully considered all evidence placed before him and he did not believe there was a reasonable prospect another court would come to a different decision. Nqini was caught out when an undercover policewoman set up a sting by pretending to be a patient.
