DA acts on rebel councillors

THE DA has terminated the membership of two Nelson Mandela Bay councillors who defied a caucus decision and refused to walk out of a council meeting.

Bahle Ngqondela and Mzukisi Ncamani were given 48 hours to oppose the decision after they were slapped with letters terminating their membership yesterday.

They immediately said they would fight the “wrongful termination”.

Should they fail to convince the party not to terminate their membership, there would be two vacancies – which means former councillor Knight Mali could be reinstated as a councillor.

The two are the latest councillors to be shown the door for allegedly violating the party’s constitution after Mali was booted out of the DA in December.

Mali took the DA to court and it ruled in his favour and ordered last month that his membership be reinstated.

Ngqondela and Ncamani defiantly refused to walk out of a council meeting with the DA, UDM and COPE last week, after it had been agreed that the meeting would be collapsed.
