Two die in northern areas shootings

TWO men died in separate suspected gang related shootings in Port Elizabeth’s northern areas at the weekend.

The first shooting took place on Saturday between Lawler Street and Searle Road in Schauderville.

Police spokesman Alwin Labans said a 31-year-old man was killed when three men opened fire on him. “Three unknown males, two armed with firearms, shot him several times in the upper body. He died on the scene.”

The second attack took place in Pienaar Street, Helenvale, when a man of 30 was shot in the chest early yesterday.

“He was inside the house when suddenly a suspect entered and fired at him in the chest.

Several shots were fired in his direction.” Labans refused to name the victims. He said police suspected both attacks were gang related. “We are investigating charges of murder, ” he said.
