Thousands pay tribute to DJ

THOUSANDS of people dressed in colourful traditional outfits attended the memorial service for Umhlobo Wenene DJ Saba Mbixane held at the Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, yesterday.

It was an emotional event filled with tears, laughter and song as people remembered Mbixane, who presented traditional show Lavuthi Bhayi.

Mbixane died last week after having been in a critical condition in Mthatha’s Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital since crashing his motorbike outside Mount Frere on February 9.

Mbixane made a name for himself as a traditional presenter who also collected four awards for the station at the South African Traditional Music Awards.
