Port Elizabeth “bad boy” Brent Cunningham, who was acquitted last year of assaulting his former girlfriend, Shireen Ballan, was arrested yesterday for allegedly assaulting his latest girlfriend.

In an ironic twist of fate for 23-year-old Cunningham, he was physically restrained and put under citizen’s arrest in North End by a friend of both Ballan and his present girlfriend, Sharon Roberts.

Roberts had been quick to defend Cunningham after his acquittal, saying he had not been given a chance to tell his side of the story.

A picture of Roberts – which shows extensive facial bruising following her alleged assault at a house in Lorraine – was being distributed on cellphones around the city yesterday.
