Northern areas principals tell education chief of frustration

FRUSTRATED northern areas school principals yesterday told Port Elizabeth district education boss Dr Nyathi Ntsiko of their struggle to deliver quality education.

More than 50 principals gathered at the Education Department's Ethel Valentine offices to highlight the daily challenges facing schools.

While Ntsiko did not have a definitive answer to individual problems, he told principals that the provincial Treasury had finally given the go-ahead for the appointment of teachers.

This comes after the department struggled to redeploy teachers since the start of the year.

He scheduled another meeting with principals next week when district chief education specialists will respond to schools' individual concerns.

The principals' meeting follows another meeting held on Wednesday when school governing bodies in the northern areas threatened a complete schools shutdown. - Zandile Mbabela
