Transnet sex-for-jobs case in court

SEVERAL women security guards were allegedly sexually assaulted by their boss and threatened with losing their jobs if they reported him, the Port Elizabeth Regional Court heard yesterday.

They were also allegedly forced to pose nude for photographs.

The allegations first came to light in May 2011 after the women failed to arrive for work. Some of them had skipped work several times and were on final warnings.

Transnet inspector Eben Kammies, 49, of KwaNobuhle, was arrested on May 23 2011 after at least five of the Fidelity security guards claimed he had sexually assaulted them or forced them to perform sexual acts on him. Three of the women laid criminal complaints. At the time, the Uitenhage father pleaded not guilty to seven counts of sexual assault, rape and crimen injuria for forcing the women to pose for nude photographs, and has since lost his job. - Kathryn Kimberley
