RURAL Development and Agrarian Reform MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane visited farmers after devastating veld fires left a trail of destruction between the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend.
Yesterday, Qoboshiyane announced that his department had already secured R2.9-million for emergency distress relief to help farmers get back on their feet. The money will be used to buy seed, provide water and replace livestock.
"We will assemble a team of experts to assess the full extent of the loss and provide adequate resources.
"There must be a rapid response and support from government because the disaster stretches over a large area," Qoboshiyane said. - Loyiso Mpalantshane
