Beaten-up teacher to be paid out

A SHERIFF of the court has attached assets of the Eastern Cape Education Department to recover R40000, excluding interest, to be paid out to a teacher who was beaten up by a school principal.

The sale of the attached assets is scheduled for May 9.

The assets belong to the education district offices in Engcobo.

The attachment was confirmed by Phumzile Songo attorneys, who represented the plaintiff, Thobeka Mbeke.

According to court papers. Mbeke, a teacher at Beyele Junior Secondary School, was assaulted in front of colleagues by principal Mzobanzi Popoyi on December 8 2009. The fight revolved around unfinished schedules.

Assets to go under the hammer include three photocopying machines, four office tables, five computers, and 30 office chairs. - Msindisi Fengu
