Breakthrough in gang shootings

TWO suspected gang members have been arrested and three firearms confiscated, signalling a breakthrough in the latest spate of gang shootings in Port Elizabeth's northern areas.

Eight people have been killed in gang-related incidents since Tuesday last week.

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said the two men, aged 21 and 23, were arrested on Wednesday evening, while the gang task team and Gelvandale crime prevention unit were following up leads.

They are expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Monday on attempted murder charges. – Gareth Wilson
