Security and safety

SECURITY and safety at the busy Arlington landfill site will soon be improved with the fencing of the entire area.

Following requests made by me, the Arlington Monitoring Committee and the SAPS, the Public Health Department agreed to proceed with fencing of the site.

A heavy-duty concrete palisade fence now encloses the massive site and there is just one point of entry.

The permit conditions for this site stipulated that it must be fenced, and the recent incidence of crime highlighted the fact that there was easy access for all to the area.

This fence will now prevent cattle and dogs from invading the area and with only one access point, security will be greatly enhanced.

I appealed to residents to not dump illegally, but to utilise the landfill site, as the security issues had been addressed. There are now 10 security guards appointed by the landfill operator, patrolling the area.

ý Boundary Lane bush flattened

Mount Pleasant residents were delighted when teams moved in and finally eradicated all the overgrown bush growing on the steep hill along Boundary Lane, between Gladys Road and Cyril Road.

Complaints were received on a regular basis, and I am very pleased that this matter has now finally been resolved. The total removal of this bush opens up the roadway and motorists will no longer damage their vehicles on this narrow road.

The area has been opened up and the bush is no longer a hiding place for criminals.

Traffic officials visited the area to police the stop streets which were being ignored and more than 90 motorists were recently fined. Regular traffic policing had been requested in the area.
