Fishing company case not yet referred to tribunal

The case involving a fishing company owned by Sekunjalo Investments has not yet been referred to the Competition Commission tribunal for final adjudication, a spokesman said on Monday (17/02/2014).

"The commission has not referred the case to the tribunal yet," said commission spokesman Themba Mathebula.

"The commission only confirmed that its legal service division was finalising the referral process..."

The Sunday Times reported this week that the fishing company, Premier Fishing, could face a multi-million-rand fine following allegations of price collusion involving Premier and other companies.

This follows a complaint lodged almost six years ago against big fishing companies.

It was alleged that the companies were colluding to set uniform prices for skippers, crew and private boat owners, according to the newspaper.

Sekunjalo spokeswoman Cherie Hendricks told the Sunday Times that Premier Fishing had always maintained a good governance standard.

"We are confident of our position as we have communicated this to the commission," she said.  - Sapa
