Jandre proves a hit on court

A YOUNG tennis player from Brandwag High is on his way to great things as he lights up the tennis world with his sublime skills.

Jandre Lessing, 16, clinched the Eastern Province U16 title at the Vitathion EP Junior tennis championships at the Port Elizabeth Lawn Tennis Club last month.

He is regarded as one of the best junior players in the country at the moment and backs it up with an array of tournament wins, as well as provincial and national honours.

The “Brandwagter” has represented EP in all age groups from U10 to U19. He has also realised his dream of obtaining national colours after being selected for the South African Schools team four years in a row from 2012 to 2014.

“It was the proudest moment of my life” Lessing said about representing SA. He is privately coached by Morne Meyer, with whom he has been working with since Grade 8.

“He has taught me a lot, patience, how to close out a game and basically everything else I need to be successful at my own game,” Lessing said.

Lessing is a member of the Despatch Tennis Club and also works under the guidance of club coach Nicky Dorfling. Lessing also heaps praise on his parents for their support in his love for the game.

“My parents love the game just as much as I do and that just gives me the confidence to go out there and do my best,” he said.
