Upset win for Stardrift

STRUGGLING Stardrift caused the upset of the early season in the Nafa Premier League on Saturday when they thrashed Hotspurs 4-1 in their own backyard at the Dyke.

This was the log leaders' first defeat of the season.

In another shock result, Saints – who were joint-last – held Glenville to a 1-1 draw to deprive the defending champions of the chance of going to the top of the log. However, the point does not improve Saints' log standing.

Meanwhile, Blackpool closed in on the log leaders with a 2-1 win over Westlake after leading 1-0 at the break. While they are still third, they are just three points behind the log leaders.

Denver Kroukamp latched on to an excellent through ball to score the first goal for Blackpool. Minutes into the second half, Kroukamp set up the second goal which Johnneton Pokbas converted to make it 2-0.

Westlake stepped up a gear and sustained pressure saw them reduce the deficit.

Shamrocks were thrashed 3-0 by Helenvale who went into the match two points behind the Rocks.

Results: Helenvale 3 Shamrocks 0, Glenville 1 Saints 1, Park United 1 Ebenezer 1, Bloom Callies 1 Chatty 1, Wolves 1 Booysens Pride 0, Blackpool 2 Westlake 1, Stardrift 4 Hotspurs 1. - Mogan Segadavan
