League title race, relegation battle hot up

THE race for the Safa-NMB SAB League title and the battle to avoid relegation are poised on a knife edge.

Subs retained their one- point lead at the top of the log after they beat Camper United 2-0 at the weekend.

Lion City roared to a convincing 3-0 over Tomorrow Stars to retain second spot, and if the title race gets decided on goal difference, City must be the favourites.

After Thulani Shumpa beat the off-side trap to make the score 1-0, City never looked back.

Akhona Manqola made the half-time score 2-0 with a volley from well outside the area.

Mihlali Mkhonto made it 3-0 in the second half.

Callies remain third, just two points behind Subs, after beating Highland Spurs 3-1.

Despite beating Island City 1-0, Sunrise Development cannot avoid relegation. With just three points separating them, any one of the five teams above them could be relegated.

Motherwell Academy and Peace United, who are the prime candidates for relegation, drew 0-0.

Tomorrow Stars, who are a point above them, were thumped 3-0 by City.
