Husband felt undermined

A MAN accused of stabbing his wife to death in their Motherwell home told the Port Elizabeth High Court yesterday her family constantly interfered in their marriage.

The 47-year-old allegedly stabbed his wife to death with a kitchen knife on October 1 2013.

While he admitted their relationship had problems, he said they were fighting about money the night she died. He blamed her family for undermining his authority “as the man of the house”.

“My father-in-law was not happy about our marriage,” he said.

“Her father would come and make decisions in my house, undermining me as the man of the house. And those things affected our marriage.”

On the day of the murder, the accused allegedly sent their three children to their respective rooms and started shouting and swearing at his wife before stabbing her.

Unknown to him, his eight-yearold daughter peeped through the bedroom door and partially witnessed the incident.

He was arrested in King William’s Town two days later.

The trial continues today.
