Perlemoen poacher to lose diving equipment

A UITENHAGE fisherman convicted on a charge of illegal possession of perlemoen is set to lose property to the value of R31000 after the Port Elizabeth High Court granted a preservation order to the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) this week.

The preservation order relates to property – including a Falcon rubber duck with a Yamaha motor and trailer and nine diving cylinders – seized when Juan Els was arrested on the night of November 29 2009

Els, 35, was convicted on May 13 and was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for five years.

The property is with the police and will be reserved under the order until a forfeiture order is granted. - Lee-Anne Butler
