Prison talks going well, officials say

AN EMERGENCY meeting with senior Correctional Service officials at St Albans Prison is going "well", with short-term solutions already in place.

The call for action comes after two officers were stabbed in the head and face by inmates in separate incidents on Friday and Monday.

The planning session – which started on Wednesday – continues today.

St Albans management, union representatives, provincial Correctional Service management and a national task team appointed by national commissioner Nontsikelelo Jolingana form part of the core group to assess and develop new security measures.

Correctional Service Eastern Cape commissioner Nkosinathi Breakfast said the aim was to brief the task team on all concerns so a plan could be formulated for national management to implement - Gareth Wilson
