Teen accused of sex attack on five-year-old boy

A PORT Elizabeth teenager was released on R500 bail yesterday after being arrested for sexually assaulting a child only a month after a separate charge of sexual assault was withdrawn against him as the young victim was too scared to testify.

The distraught mother of the latest alleged victim – who is five years old – cried outside the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court yesterday as her son’s alleged assailant was released.

It is claimed the 19-year-old sexually assaulted her son at their family home last week. The 28-year-old mother, of North End, said she lived just metres from the accused’s flat and was afraid he would hurt her young son again.

She got a protection order against him on Thursday.

The accused, a security guard, was arrested last Wednesday after the child’s grandmother allegedly caught him sexually assaulting the little boy at their family home.

The accused cannot be named until he formally pleads to the charge. - Kathryn Kimberley
