Bay's 1500 jobs boost

TWO ground-breaking projects were launched at Coega yesterday, which in total will create 1500 jobs for the region.

Green technology pioneer DCD Wind Towers and steel beneficiating innovator Agni Steels were officially commissioned by Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies and Energy Minister Ben Martins yesterday.

Both companies, representing a combined investment of R700-million, will start production later this month and are finishing up various pilots and test-run phases necessary before production can start.

The R400-million Agni Steels mill will produce mild steel billets from scrap metal, and director Dhiroshan Moodley said once operational it would create 300 jobs in the first phase, which would build up to 800 jobs in the third phase of the mill. -
