New drive to cut teen pregnancies

SOUTH African is stepping up the fight against teenage pregnancies and the "sugar daddy" syndrome and hopes to reduce the number of abortions performed each year.

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi announced the plans at the launch of the new national family planning campaign, where a new hormonal contraceptive implant was officially launched.

The implants are already available at hospitals and clinics around the Eastern Cape and nurses have been trained in their use.
