The red carpet is the perfect chance for every actress, musician, director and model to shine – and Eastern Cape matriculants could take tips from the professionals on how to dress up and look their best for this year’s matric farewell functions and parties.

From the Golden Globes to the Baftas, the Grammys to the Oscars, award ceremonies give glamour spotters rich pickings due to the dazzling array of evening dresses on display.

The A-list stars have their own personal stylists to primp and preen their wardrobes for the evening.

The outfits – including jeweller y, hair styles and accessories – receive such intense media attention that very few stars now simply throw on a dress and turn up, as the opportunity for designers to make or break their name is immense.

The Golden Globes in Los Angeles earlier this month – threw out style hints galore.

Apart from many peek-a-boo interpretations of black and white and a sea of red and sparkling metallics, many were bold in featuring more individuality, such as the Giambiattista Valli Haute Couture worn by Hollywood’s reigning It Girl Lupita Nyong’o.
