Phillip Weise and Dean Ball, in their Solid Pave BMW 328, took the chequered flag on a moonlit Saturday evening to unexpectedly claim top honors in the Midas 3-hour Endurance race at Aldo Scribante Raceway.
The pair were followed home by Eric Salomon and Dave Sinclair in their Elf S06 while Hennie Trollip and Jimmy Dunn, in their Lotus Seven, rounded out the podium positions with third place.
More than 250 entrants across more than eight classes were at the Port Elizabeth race track for the final motor-sport event of the season for event hosts Algoa Motorsport Club.
One of the oldest motorcycle races in the country, the Mahle PE 200 saw Jared Schultz, on his Yamaha R6, walk away with top honours over the two races.
He was closely followed by the BMW class-winning team of John Kriege and Roberto Jonker while Mark and Alex van der Berg ended third on their Suzuki 1000R.
The Klinicare PE 100 motorcycle race had Kawasaki twin duo Chris Williams and Andrew Liebenberg fight it out for 20 laps.
Only a second separated them at the flag, with Jaco Scholtz (Yamaha) in third.
In the Unlimited, Botts and BMW RR class, Yamaha rider Brandon Haupt picked up the overall win thanks to his second place in race one and a victory in race two.
He finished ahead of AJ Venter and Bernard Haupt, both on Yamaha R1s.
The 600cc class had Ricardo Otto edge Mahle winner Schultz to first place overall, both on Yamaha R6 machines, while Zante Otto ensured a top three for Yamaha after claiming the final podium spot.
In the Power sport Motorcycle Sprint race, Kawasaki 650 twin rider Paul Medell made a clean sweep over two races to take the overall win in the Masters/650 Twin class.
However, Medell was chased all the way by another Kawasaki 650 twin rider in Chris Williams, who ended second, while Jaco Scholtz (Suzuki) claimed third.
Fabio Tafani claimed first place overall in the V8 Masters class, thanks to two valuable race wins.
Tafani was followed by Marcel Angel and Brian Evans.
Craig Jarvis put on a display of supreme driving ability in the Western Province Sport and GT including Eastern Province Sports cars class, taking a victory in both races.
Jarvis, in his Ginetta Corvette, finished ahead of James Forbes and SA motor-sport legend Sarel van der Merwe, both in Ligiers.
A pair of Coastal Challenge races rounded off the day’s action as Cape Class X visitor Jaco Lambert (Sirocco) took the overall win from Class S runners Shaun and Mike Rudolph (Escort) and Deon Gouws (Kadett) in third.
The Allcomers Saloon Car race entry field was split in two as Silvio Scribante (Audi) took honours ahead of Keagan Pottas’ Honda CRX while Deon Slabbert (Polo) came third in group A.
Group B had Riaan Swart (Jetta) take first place overall, edging out Wayne Wilson (Maxima) in second and George Neethling (Golf).
