Grey, Lorraine hard acts to chase in MTB

School-going mountain bikers will be looking to oust Grey High and Lorraine Primary from the top of the log as the second round of the Spur Schools Mountain Bike League takes place in Theescombe on Saturday.
Both schools head their respective logs after the first round of the four-race league, which moves to the Norm Hudlin trails on Kragga Kamma Road.
Bikers compete in a number of categories based on their age, from sub-nippers, nippers and sprogs to sub-junior for both primary and high school, junior and two youth categories for ages 15 and 16.
Saturday’s race will include a long lap covering roughly 4.29km, while the short lap will see riders traverse roughly two kilometres of trail.
Having amassed 104 points from the opening round, Grey High will be looking to capitalise on their good start.
They have a 12-point lead over Pearson (92) and Daniel Pienaar (35) are third.
In the primary school league, Lorraine lead the way with 110 points, with Summerwood second on 67 and Collegiate third on 63.
Among the top riders, Grey High’s Ceejay Bosman leads the way in the junior men’s category and Hannah Oelofsen is the frontrunner in the junior women’s category.
In the youth men (16) category, Aiden Finlay, also from Grey High, tops the list and Ashleigh Mayhead from Westview High leads the youth women. Another Grey boy, Bradley Bosman, heads the youth men (15) category, while Erinn Marie Stokker from Global Leadership Academy is the youth women frontrunner.
East Cape Mountain Biking commissioner and Spurs Schools MTB league co-ordinator Graeme Daly said the league aimed to get more youths involved in cycling.
