Bobbies’ campaign ends with 61-3 defeat

Don's Pawn Shop PE Police ended their Gold Cup campaign with a bruising 61-3 defeat at the hands of Brakpan at the Bosman Stadium in Brakpan. The loss saw the Port Elizabeth outfit knocked out of the competition in the quarterfinal stages. “We were totally outplayed by a very strong Brakpan side. They have big and dominating forwards which free up the ball for their strong running backs,” PE Police assistant coach Marius van der Walt said. “They also stick to their structure very well and have a team that can go all the way in this tournament.” The PE Bobbies conceded nine tries in their loss. The onslaught started in the first half, with the home side ending the half with an emphatic 40-0 lead. “It was by far the heaviest defeat I have suffered as a coach and assistant, we need to work on conditioning and fitness,” Van der Walt said.
