Roadrunning queen cruises to 10km victory

LOCAL roadrunning queen Ntombesintu Mfunzi proved yet again that she has no competition in the Eastern Cape when she cruised to victory in the Walker Drive Super D 10km road race.

The Nedbank athlete, who is virtually unbeatable locally in distances from 10km to the marathon, finished three minutes ahead of teenager Jamie-Lee Schlemmer (Madibaz) in 36:54 with Siphokazi Nojoko (Motherwell) a distant third.

In the men's category Mariano Essau was an equally easy winner finishing in 30:25 with Melikhaya Frans and Zolani Ngqaqa filling the minor places.

THERE were 298 finishers in Saturday's 5km Hobie Beach Parkrun with Gawie Henning first past the post in 18:08.

Melissa Mayo was the first woman home in 23:06.

The parkrun is a free weekly timed event in centres all over the world starting at 8am every Saturday to promote fitness.

There are about 30 runs in South Africa with Comrades legend Bruce Fordyce the national director.
