Keeping in touch with youth through rugby

AS touch rugby gains in popularity among the youth, the Teenagers Against Drug Abuse society at Grey High is planning a touch rugby tournament to create awareness of an issue many children face today.

The game of touch rugby has become a vibrant part of life at Grey and there is not a day that a touch rugby game does not take place on the school grounds.

The society feels that combining the popularity of the game with a message will create awareness of the issue.

The touch rugby event on March 27 at the school will consist of a junior as well as a senior division, with each producing a winning team.

Each team will consist of eight players and each division is expected to have a minimum of eight teams. The society has also invited members of the NMMU rugby fraternity to play an exhibition game at the end of the tournament against one of the Grey teams.

"It is our hope that the examples that these players set in their personal and professional lives will carry through to the young boys of our school. We also believe that this event will acknowledge those who already lead a drug-free lifestyle," the society said.

"We are currently in search of support for this event.

"We are in need of any form of sponsorships in order to supply the competitors with prizes as well as to ensure the tournament is a success.

"We will appreciate donations of any kind or to prizes for the winners," the society said.
