SA girls have all the moves

SOUTH African girls fared better than their male counterparts at the fifth annual African Youth Chess Tournament, which ended in Port Elizabeth yesterday.

South Africa finished first in four of the six age categories for girls, while only one boy finished first.

The 148 players from seven countries – Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe – played in nine rounds, with the winners in each age category being awarded the right to compete in the 2014 World Youth Chess Championship in Durban.
