Kings urged to be calm, patient

FORMER Springbok centre De Wet Barry says it is vital the EP Kings show "calmness and patience" when they clash with the Falcons in an Absa Currie Cup First Division match at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium tonight.

Barry, the Kings' defence and breakdown coach, played 38 tests for the Springboks and developed a reputation for being a brutal defender in the international arena.

"There was a very good calmness about the guys when they beat Boland last week. If we can take that patience and calmness into the next few weeks it will be very good for us," Barry said. "In our last game we were good defensively but we were struggling to stop the maul.

"Consistency is important and we want the guys to be up for the challenge every week." Barry said he had benefited from working with former Southern Kings defence coach Omar Mouneimne, who has now linked up with Edinburgh Rugby in Scotland.
