Pearson in fine form
PEARSON showed excellent form in their annual cricket festival at the weekend, the highlight being an eight-wicket win over the traditionally strong Grey High outfit.
Playing in a declaration format match on Friday, Pearson staggered their opponents with a bowling display which saw them dismissed for 101. Brydon Carse excelled with figures of six for 15 in nine overs.
Carse then added the finishing touches to the triumph with 30 not out as he and Josh Dodd (56 not out) took Pearson to victory. The hosts began the festival with comfortable Twenty20 victories over Alexander Road (by nine wickets) and Woodridge (by seven wickets) on the opening day, and finished off in style with a massive 196-run win over Marlow Agricultural in Saturday's 45-overs encounter.
Carse smashed 131 and there were 50s from Dodd and Jacques Budricks in a big total of 288/9. They then ran through the Marlow batting, dismissing them for 92.
Framesby scores
FRAMESBY were another side to emerge from the festival unbeaten, continuing the fine form they showed last season.
Their closest match came in the T20 encounter against Westering, in which they were restricted to 109/8 before holding off the challenge to win by 16 runs.
Anru Emiljo showed excellent consistency with the bat, producing scores of 50, 55 not out, 75 not out and 70.
Johnte Nel hammered 97 as they won their second T20 match by 155 runs against Priory and Rehaldo Swanepoel (66 not out) helped Emiljo take them to an eight-wicket win over Woodridge in the declaration game.
On the final day, Framesby hammered the hapless Alexander Road attack for 323/6 in 50 overs (Johan Grobler 124) and won the match by 125 runs.
VP scores
VICTORIA Park registered one of the most exciting wins in the festival when they defeated Marlow by four wickets with two balls remaining in their opening T20 encounter.
Marlow totalled a respectable 151/1, but were pipped to the post as VP batsmen Diego van Rooyen (45), Chad Batty (37) and Siya Gebengana (37) ensured victory.
VP had a tough second T20 encounter, Bradley Bopp smashing 91 not out as Grey posted a daunting 175/6. Justin Pretorius took 3/33.
VP were unable to match that total, although they posted a respectable 140/3, Pretorius making 50 not out and Kyle Hodgkinson 40 not out.
On Friday, VP were in control when they reduced Priory to 38/6 before the batting side recovered to a respectable 143 all out. Joshuan Assam led the VP attack with 5/19.
VP batted aggressively to chase down the total in 27 overs, winning by five wickets. Pretorius (53) and Diego van Rooyen (32) were the main run-scorers.
On Saturday, VP produced a top-notch bowling performance to defeat Woodridge by 79 runs after making 209 in 49.4 overs (Siya Gebengana 60 and Diego van Rooyen 59).
Pretorius (4/27) again excelled with the ball as Woodridge were dismissed for 130.
