Illegal wiring gives toddler fatal shock

A toddler was electrocuted while playing in the garden of a New Brighton home yesterday.

Luniko Njikilanga, 15 months, died after touching part of the fence around the garden in the Chris Hani informal settlement.

Police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge said the boy was found by his aunt, Portia, 19, who was looking after him as his mother Andisiwe,18, was out.

Police found that the fence was leaning against the neighbours’ iron shack, which had an illegal power connection.

An inquest case is under investigation.
