Jail-break fugitives caught

TWO of five prisoners who escaped from the Queenstown police station at the weekend have been arrested.

The prisoners escaped on Saturday at about 5.30pm while police officers were changing shifts.

Spokesman Lieutenant Namhla Mdleleni said Kholekile Gqomfa, 40, Malusi Nobopha, 22, and Mark Mantirimani, 28, were still at large.

Athenkosi Nqabisa, 26, and Godfrey Beets, 22, had been rearrested, Mdleleni said.

All were in holding cells after having appeared in court and being remanded in custody.

“It is unclear how the men escaped but we know they fled out of the back entrance,” Mdleleni said.

The five were facing separate charges including illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm, burglary and theft.
