ANC funding blunder

Party left red-faced as stadium flip-flops on R150 000 donation for its election campaign

THE ANC in Nelson Mandela Bay was gearing up last month to receive a R150 000 donation from Access Management, the company managing the municipality’s world-class stadium.

But the deal went pearshaped when the company’s board decided against pumping money into the party’s election machinery.

In a letter to Access Management chief executive Chantal du Pisani, ANC regional task team treasurer Donny Nadison asked Access Management to deposit the donation into the party’s trust account managed by legal firm Le Roux Inc.

However, Du Pisani said on Friday that after considering the letter from Nadison the board had decided not to make any donations at this time.

Access Management is one of the companies being investigated by the national Treasury – as part of a massive fraud and corruption probe – to establish why the municipality had transferred millions of rands from its failed bus system to the company’s account in 2012.
