Hoekstra accused warned for being late

JUDGE Phakamisa Tshiki yesterday reprimanded one of the people accused of murdering Walmer Country Club manager Gerrie Hoekstra after she arrived late for the trial for the second time this week.

Judge Tshiki warned Charne Brown, 31, that her bail would be revoked after she arrived 20 minutes late at court yesterday. On Monday, Brown was also several minutes late after a tea adjournment.

Asked yesterday why she had arrived late, Brown told the court her grandmother had taken ill and she had to take her to see a doctor. She said she was unable to phone her attorney. But Judge Tshiki said:

"You are out on bail but if you are not here at the stipulated time this court has the right to revoke your bail. This is the last warning. We are not going to wait for you again." - Lee-Anne Butler
