Repair of Booysen Park transformer stymied

WORKERS from the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's electricity department had to lower their tools in Port Elizabeth's Booysen Park yesterday as illegal electricity connections in the area could cause an explosion big enough to harm hundreds of residents.

At 8am yesterday, families from Booysen Park – left in the dark since Sunday after a transformer exploded due to the illegal connections – were rejoicing to see municipal workers arriving to fix the problem.

Half an hour later, however, the workers withdrew, leaving residents of Auburn Street and Booysen Park Drive without power indefinitely. - Alvené du Plessis
