Angry residents take to streets after power cut

Chaos erupted in Stanford Road, Port Elizabeth, on Sunday evening (02/03/14) when unhappiness over a day-long power cut in the area resulted in members of the community blocking the road, stoning vehicles and burning tyres.

Police spokesman Captain Johan Rheeder said municipal workers from the electricity department requested protection and an armed police escort before they were willing to enter the area to fix the power problems.

Rheeder said Stanford Road is blocked off all the way from Kobus Road and asked members of the public to avoid the area.
