Interact donation will change a life

IN keeping with its motto of changing lives, Pearson High School's Interact Club last week donated R10000 to the SA Guide Dog Association (Sagda) and is gearing up towards a further donation to the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital next month.

The donation to the association will be used to buy a new guide dog – the fifth dog handed over in the past six years.

Interact president Leah Brink and her committee raised the funds for the two donations through initiatives including a raffle and a Valentine's dance.

At the hand-over last week Sagda member Telania Eaton visited the school to talk about the importance of guide dogs.

Eaton told how her canine companion, Shaggy, helped her enjoy a full life, which included going camping, shopping and doing aerobics.

Pearson teacher Wendy Rossouw is also involved with the Interact Club. She said the passion she has for late former president Nelson Mandela and his wife, Graca Machel, played a major part in why the hospital was chosen.

"I am a history teacher and very inspired by Mandela and his role in our democracy.

"Hence our decision to donate R10000 to the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital."
