A brilliant second half strike from Ruzaigh Gamildien and a brace from Augustine Kwem dashed TS Galaxy’s hopes of defending their Nedbank Cup title as they were beaten 3-0 by Chippa United at a rainy Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday night.
There was no dancing for Dan Malesela when his side’s journey in the competition was cut short by his former team.
For Chippa the win seems them go through to the next round of the competition.
Chippa were the most attacking team during the early stages of the game. They had more chances on goal but just could not find the back of the net.
Gamildien missed a glorious opportunity to put the Chilli Boys in the lead, 16 minutes into the game but he shot wide.
The defending champions soon found their feet half way through the first stanza and took control of the game.
Though Galaxy had the ball possession they struggled to get pass the Chilli Boys defence.
After numerous failed attempts Gamildien finally found the back of the net in the 63rd minutes, when he beat TS goalkeeper Ludwe Mpakumpaku and sent the ball flying into the top right corner.
Minutes later Malesela’s troops went looking for an equaliser but failed.
Kwem extended the lead when he scored in the 73rd minute before he finished TS off with his second goal in the dying minutes.
