THE fourth Nelson Mandela Bay Urban Run, hosted by the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), continued to live up to its reputation as the city's greatest charity event by not only highlighting recent urban renewal to over 1000 participants but also raising close to R200000 for charity.

"While entry numbers were down on last year, the Urban Run was another huge success and afforded us the opportunity to showcase our CBD to those who took part in the kids and adult events at the weekend," race director Michael Zoetmulder of Zports said.

"The Urban athletes once again opened their hearts and wallets to the charities and collectively the Urban Run helped raise R192159.90 for charity this year."

The 2014 Urban Run participant raising the most money for Cheshire Home Eastern Province was Lyndon Bagley who raised R2625 followed by Huub Riemslag (R2450) and Tammy Riley (R2400).

On the morning, Ayrton Agencies boosted the charity funds with a donation of R10000. In the Kids Urban Run on the Saturday afternoon, the La Bercensie sisters, Anika (R1240) and Jasmine (R1000), raised the largest amount for the Reach for a Dream Foundation with Anika being rewarded with an Avalanche bicycle from Cyclo Pro in Walmer. Teddy Stolasz (R550) raised the third largest amount of money.

The Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth Sunrise also received the proceeds from the Crickley Dairy Kids Zone and the Castle Lite Beer Garden to use in their community projects.
