CITY Lads crushed neighbours Liverpool Ladies 9-0 in an Eastern Cape Sasol Women's League semi-professional football match at Estiyeni Higher Primary School sports ground over the weekend.

New Brighton-based Lads, scored four goals in the first half courtesy of Nwabisa Kolisi, Anelisa Sonjica, Phakama Duru and Andisiwe Ndesi.

The absence of Liverpool defender Amanda Sister, who was in the Banyana Banyana team that beat Botswana 4-0 in an international fixture on Saturday, left a big void in the home side's defence.

Lads kept the heat on their opponents after the break and scored five more goals.

Kolisi, Sonjica and Ndesi scored two goals apiece in the second half, while Nobubele Hlophe and Neliseka Lolwana netted the other goals.

Lads are the defending champions in the provincial Sasol Women's Football League and represented the Eastern Cape at the national championship tournament held in North West last year.

Lads are in third spot on the log and will want to finish top again this season.

Meanwhile, league rookies Mustangs beat Continental Express 3-0 in a Port Elizabeth derby in the Sasol Women's League at the Old Grey grounds on Saturday.

Justene Watermeyer scored the first goal in the first half and doubled the score in the second stanza of the match.

Courtney Nanan scored the third goal for Mustangs Ladies to better her team's position on the log standings. - Mthetho Ndoni
