VISITING Muirite Striders runner Lusapho April, who won the Sports Star of the Year at The Boardwalk on Friday evening, showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels in the Cassies 15km roadrace the next morning.

April was an easy winner of the race, which served as an Eastern Province championship event, in 44 minutes and 29 seconds.

Organising club Nedbank made a clean sweep of the women's category, filling the top four spots. Ntombesintu Mfunzi was first in 56:24.

Veteran Margie Saunders, who finished fourth in 64:22, broke both the Eastern Province and SA record for the 60-69 age group.

Meanwhile, Brian Saunders finished first for the fourth time in 15 appearances in the weekly Hobie Beach Parkrun on Saturday.

Saunders finished ahead of Bradley Verreynne and Alex Blumberg in 18:11.

Tracey Almiral won the women's section on her first attempt in 21:14 and set an Eastern Province record.

This week 308 runners, including 51 first-timers, participated in the run which has attracted 1969 different runners since the local leg of the worldwide event started six months ago.

Women: Tracey Almiral 21:14, Jenne-Lee Schiller 22:33, Kim Drinkwater 24:54.
